The Coach Cassie has taken the luxury handbag world by storm recently. Everyone is talking about it and buying it, including luxury gurus like Minks4All.
There are two reasons that people are talking about the Coach Cassie: (1) its similarity to the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis and (2) the price point.
The Coach Cassie is the new bag on the block with a silhouette very much like the pochette metis. It has a top handle, a signature lock, a removable crossbody strap, and three interior compartments. Where the bag differs is the exterior slip compartment, the non-adjustable crossbody strap and the all leather exterior (assuming you are not buying the empriente pochette metis). The official measurements of the Cassie are 10″ (L) x 7 1/4″ (H) x 1 3/4″ (W), making it extremely similar size wise to the pochette metis. I think the biggest difference for most people is the price points which ranges from $350 to $395. That is a huge difference and that price is for leather! (There is one partially canvas variation with the coach signature logo on it that does retail for $350- the same price as the solid colored pebbled leather.) I do think Coach has really started stepping up there game and their leather quality is great so I think that is why this bag has gathered a following so quickly.
The Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis is a tried and true beauty that is loved by most luxury lovers. Yes, it has had major glazing and cracking issues but that is more of a quality issue then people not loving the look of the bag. For example, I am on my second Pochette Metis after my first one had glazing melting issues. I love my second one and have not had any issues- but if I did I would totally replace it. I love it so much I am even thinking of investing in a empriente leather version (which does not have the glazing and cracking issues) when I am on my honeymoon. The Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis is much more expensive and the regular canvas costs $1,830. Not only is the price point much of a hurdle but the bag is currently sold out everywhere in both the monogram and the reverse monogram canvas. The measurements of the Pochette Metis are 9.8 x 7.5 x 3.5 inches (Length x Height x Width). The bag has a removable and adjustable strap with 5 holes. The exterior is canvas with natural cowhide leather trim and gold hardware and one exterior zipped pocket. There is also a natural cowhide leather trim handle on the top of the back. The traditional LV lock is also a beautiful addition to the exterior. The interior has 3 compartments and a dark brown microfiber lining.
My final take on the bag is that if you love the bag, REGARDLESS OF ITS PRICE, then by all means you should snag one. BUT if you are looking for a bag to satisfy your Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis craving I would hold out for a Pochette Metis. I know that I have tried to buy the more reasonable version of something I have been lusting after just to find that I end up with the more reasonable version and the actual item I wanted- defeating the point of buying the more reasonable bag to begin with. So if you really want the Louis Vuitton Pochette Metis stalk the website, stalk preloved sites, and if you know someone going to Europe ask the to look for you too!
